Archaeological Museum of Nafplion

The Archaeological Museum occupies the old Venetian arsenal on Syntagma Square, a heavy stone block with a vaulted ground floor that once stored gunpowder and naval supplies. The collection covers the whole Argolid from the Neolithic to late antiquity, with a strong emphasis on Mycenae and Tiryns.

The star piece is the Dendra panoply — a complete suit of Mycenaean bronze armour from around 1400 BC, the only one of its kind in the world and a startling thing to see in person. The pre-classical pottery, Mycenaean frescoes and small clay figurines round out a thoughtful, easy-to-walk collection. An hour is enough.
