Achaia Clauss Winery

Achaia Clauss sits on a green hill southeast of Patras, with stone winery buildings, old cellars, and views back toward the city and gulf. Gustav Clauss founded the estate in 1861, and its Mavrodaphne became one of the best-known sweet wines in Greece.

The draw is the combination of wine history and setting: carved oak barrels, castle-like buildings, and a landscape that feels far removed from central Patras. Check ahead for tour times before making the trip up.
