Pindus Forest Hiking

High fir forest and mountain grassland walks from Pertouli into the Pindus range

The landscape around Pertouli is among the most beautiful in central Greece. The village sits at the edge of a dense fir forest that stretches across the ridges of the central Pindus, and a network of tracks and trails leads from the village into the trees and up to the higher grasslands. In summer the meadows are full of wildflowers and the forest is cool enough to walk in comfort even at midday.

Trails of varying difficulty head in several directions. The most popular goes up through the forest to open ridges with panoramic views toward Thessaly and the Thessaloniki plain. Wild boar, deer, and various raptors are regularly seen. This is not organised mountain tourism — there are no marked trails of the Alpine Club variety — but the terrain is not difficult and the paths are clear enough for anyone with reasonable fitness and basic navigation sense. Ask locally about current conditions and whether the forest road beyond the village is accessible.
