Pertouli

Greek Pindus mountain village set among fir forests and high meadows near Trikala.

Pertouli is a small mountain village in the Pindus range of central Greece, about 45 minutes from Trikala. It sits on high grasslands surrounded by fir forest, at around 1,200 metres altitude, and is one of the more accessible ski areas in the country.

The ski centre has been operating since 1985 and has runs for beginners and experienced skiers, two chalets, and two lifts. It is small and uncrowded — a good option for a weekend trip from Thessaloniki or Trikala rather than a destination in its own right. In summer the grasslands are popular for hiking in the Pindus forest and horse riding, and the surrounding forest is home to deer and wild boar.

The nearby villages of Elati and Neraidochori have more accommodation options and make a good base for exploring the area.

Things to Do

Pertouli is a place for the outdoors. In winter, the small ski centre is a low-key alternative to the busier Greek resorts. In summer, the high grasslands and fir forests are excellent walking country, and the village itself is pretty enough for a leisurely day of doing very little.
