Hadzilia Folklore and Ethnological Museum

Private collection of traditional Macedonian costume, household objects, and farming tools

The Hadzilia Museum is a small private collection built up over twenty years by a single Serres family before opening to the public in 1998. It is housed in a restored 19th-century town house in the old quarter and arranged room by room: a recreated traditional kitchen, a weaver's workshop, a bedroom with bridal costume, and rooms of farming and shepherding tools.

The strength of the collection is its depth in everyday objects: cooking pots, embroidered headscarves, agricultural implements -- the texture of rural Macedonian life in the late Ottoman and early Greek periods. Tours are usually given by family members. Open afternoons; phone ahead to be sure.
