Queen Elisabeth Park

The Queen Elisabeth Park extends behind and beside the Royal Palace, originally laid out as a formal garden and later expanded as an English landscape park in the 19th century. The park is named for Empress Elisabeth, who frequently walked and rode horses through its grounds during the long summer stays at Gödöllő.

Today the park is publicly accessible and makes for a pleasant walk whatever the season. The formal garden sections nearest the palace have been restored, with geometric beds and trimmed hedges. Further out, the park becomes more informal, with wooded paths and a small lake. The park connects to a wider green belt that merges into the surrounding countryside — Gödöllő's position at the edge of the forested hills makes it noticeably greener than most Budapest suburbs.
