Eating Out

Hortobágy is not a restaurant town — there are a handful of csárdas (traditional Hungarian inns) near the bridge, and they are the obvious place to eat. The food is plain and filling: gulyás, paprikás csirke, halászlé (fish soup), and the fatty meat stews of the Great Plain. It is genuinely traditional cooking, not tourist-adapted, and the portions are large.
