Hortobágyi Csárda

The old inn beside the Nine-Arched Bridge, operating in various forms since the 19th century when it was the main stopping point for cattle drovers crossing the plain. The interior is dark, hung with old harnesses and embroidered textile work; the menu sticks to the classics of the Hungarian plain: gulyás, pörkölt (braised meat stew), fisherman's soup, and roast duck. The pálinka selection is extensive. Expect full tables in summer — it is the most famous eating place in the region and busiest around midday when tour buses come through.
