Star Fort (Csillag Erőd)

The third element of the Komarom fortification system, built in the 1840s and 50s as a star-shaped earthwork — the points of the star give the fort its name. Less visited than Fort Monostor because much of it is still used for storage, but the outer ramparts and the moat are walkable and worth a circuit.

The grounds are a quiet place to walk, especially in late afternoon. A few of the casemates have been opened for occasional summer exhibitions; check the local tourist office for what is on. The setting is the point — high earth ramparts, mature trees, and the Danube glinting through the gaps.
