Keszthely is at the far western end of Lake Balaton, about three hours from Budapest by direct train when services are running well. Trains usually leave from Déli or Keleti station, depending on the service; check schedules carefully because the fast and slow trains differ sharply in travel time.
By car, the M7 motorway brings you from Budapest to the Balaton region, then local roads continue around the western end of the lake. Hévíz-Balaton Airport near Sármellék is close by, but scheduled service is limited and seasonal.
