The Matyó Museum holds the most comprehensive collection of Matyó folk costume, embroidery, and ethnography in the country. The displays trace the development of the embroidery from simple white-on-white work to the explosively colourful floral style that made Mezőkövesd famous in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
There are also reconstructions of traditional Matyó interiors — the loaded bed (vetett ágy) piled with embroidered pillows is a centrepiece — and exhibits on agriculture, weddings, and the church year. Allow an hour or two. The captions are mostly in Hungarian but the costumes speak for themselves.
