The main square of Mezőkövesd is a flat, pleasant space anchored by the parish church and ringed by single-storey shops, cafés, and the town hall. It is the focal point of the annual Matyó Festival in spring, when costumed dancers and musicians fill the square. The rest of the year it is a quiet place to sit with a coffee.
The tourist office on the square is the best place to pick up maps, festival dates, and information on which workshops in the Hadas are open.
