Nyíregyháza is well connected by rail. Direct trains run from Budapest Keleti station; the journey takes about two and a half hours on faster IC services. The station is central and easy to walk from into the city. Trains also connect north to Miskolc and east toward Záhony on the Ukrainian border.
By car, the M3 motorway runs east from Budapest through Miskolc and continues toward Nyíregyháza; the total drive is roughly 260 km and takes around three hours depending on traffic around Miskolc.
