The Jósa András Museum is the main regional museum of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, named after a 19th-century physician and amateur archaeologist who assembled the founding collection. The museum covers archaeology, natural history, and folk culture of the northeastern Hungarian region, with particular strengths in Bronze Age and Iron Age finds from the Nyírség area.
The permanent collection includes items from excavations at major regional sites, as well as ethnographic material from the rural communities of the area. Temporary exhibitions often cover local history and folk art. The museum is a short walk from the main square and is a good introduction to what makes this corner of Hungary distinctive.
