Sátoraljaújhely is at the end of a railway branch from Miskolc — the journey takes about 90 minutes and trains run several times a day. From Budapest, you change at Miskolc; allow around 3.5 to 4 hours in total. The train station is on the western edge of the town centre, within walking distance of the main square.
By car from Budapest, the M3 motorway goes to Miskolc and the E71 road continues northeast to Sátoraljaújhely — about 260 kilometres, or roughly 3 hours. The drive through the Zemplén Hills on the approach is scenic.
