Fő Tér (Main Square)

Fő Tér is the medieval main square of Sopron's inner town, surrounded by exceptionally well-preserved Gothic and Baroque burghers' houses. The square is car-free and lined with cafes and restaurants — it is the natural centre of any visit to Sopron. The Firewatch Tower stands at the south end, and the Goat Church (Kecske-templom) occupies the west side.

The buildings around the square range from the 14th to the 18th century and include several that now serve as museums: the Fabricius House (Roman lapidary collection and period rooms), the Storno House (eclectic private collection of art and furniture), and the former Town Hall. The square hosts an annual Christmas market in December that draws visitors from Austria and Hungary alike.
