Trains from Budapest's Déli pályaudvar reach Székesfehérvár in about 50 minutes, with several departures an hour. The line continues south to Lake Balaton, which makes it easy to combine the two destinations. The railway station is a fifteen-minute walk from the old town centre, or a short bus or taxi ride.
By car, the M7 motorway runs directly between Budapest and Székesfehérvár, an hour's drive in normal traffic. The motorway continues toward Lake Balaton and on to the Croatian border, so the town is a convenient stop on a southern road trip out of the capital.
