Kossuth Square

Kossuth tér is the heart of Szentes — a long, leafy square ringed by 19th-century public buildings, with the Reformed Great Church at its eastern end and the eclectic town hall on the south side. It is more handsome than most squares in the small towns of the southern Alföld and gives a fair sense of how prosperous Szentes was at the end of the 19th century, when this stretch of the plain was rich grain country.

There are benches under the plane trees and a café or two on the square itself. The weekly market still draws people in from the surrounding villages.
