The Vas County Museum Village is an open-air ethnographic museum on the northern edge of Szombathely. Around thirty timber and whitewashed cottages have been moved here from villages across western Hungary and reassembled in a wooded park, complete with thatched roofs, kitchen gardens, and the occasional grumpy chicken.
It is one of the better skanzens in Hungary outside the big national one at Szentendre. Allow two hours. Take bus 7 from the city centre.
