Getting There

Tatabánya sits on the M1 motorway between Budapest and Vienna, about 60 km west of Budapest and 200 km east of Vienna. By car the city is an easy day trip from either capital, and a natural stop if you are driving between the two.

The Budapest–Hegyeshalom railway line runs through Tatabánya, with frequent InterCity services that make the trip from Budapest Keleti station in about 40 minutes. The station is on the southern edge of the centre; the Turul Monument and Szelim Cave are best reached from there by taxi or a short bus ride plus a steep walk up.
