Visegrad is about 45 kilometres north of Budapest, easily reached as a day trip. By car, take the M2 motorway north from Budapest and then follow Route 11 along the west bank of the Danube; the drive takes around an hour. Alternatively, Route 11 runs the entire Danube Bend from Budapest to Esztergom without motorway speeds, which is slower but more scenic.
By public transport, Mahart Passnave runs hydrofoil and ferry services on the Danube from Budapest to Visegrad from spring to autumn — a pleasant way to arrive, with views of the river the whole way. Buses also run from Árpád híd bus station in Budapest (the Volánbusz line toward Esztergom stops at Visegrad). A direct train does not serve Visegrad itself; the nearest station is Nagymaros across the river in Hungary, reached from Budapest's Nyugati station, with a ferry crossing to Visegrad.
For the full Danube Bend circuit, many travellers travel to Visegrad by boat and return by bus (or vice versa), adding Esztergom and Szentendre to a single itinerary.
