Getting There

Akureyri Airport is just south of the town centre. Air Iceland Connect (operated by Icelandair) and Eagle Air fly from Reykjavík's domestic Reykjavík Airport several times daily; the flight takes about 45 minutes. This is by far the most practical way to get here.

By road it is about 380 km from Reykjavík, following the Ring Road (Route 1) north through the interior. The drive takes four to five hours in summer and should not be attempted in winter without checking road conditions — the mountain passes can close without warning. The Strætó long-distance bus service connects Akureyri with Reykjavík, taking about five to six hours.
