Skallagrímsgarður

A small landscaped park in the centre of town named after Skallagrímur Kveldúlfsson, the saga-age founder of Borgarnes. A burial mound here is traditionally identified as his — and that of his grandson Böðvar, drowned at sea in the saga and mourned in Egill's poem Sonatorrek.

The park is a pleasant five-minute stop, with benches, a few sculptures, and well-tended Icelandic plantings. It sits a couple of streets above the Settlement Centre and pairs naturally with a museum visit.
