Vik is 186km from Reykjavik on Route 1, the Ring Road — about two and a half hours by car with no stops, though most people make several. There is a daily Strætó bus service (route 51) between Reykjavik and Vik, running once or twice a day depending on the season. The journey takes around three hours. Flying is not a practical option; Vik has no airport. Most visitors arrive as part of a south coast driving itinerary.
