Reynisfjara beach is the main draw — black volcanic sand, basalt column formations, and the dramatic Reynisdrangar sea stacks offshore. It is genuinely beautiful and genuinely dangerous; the waves come in fast and without warning, and the undertow is serious. Stay well back from the water's edge. The nearby Dyrhólaey promontory offers a panoramic view of the coast and is one of the best spots in Iceland to see puffins during summer. The church on the hill above Vik — Víkurkirkja — is a small wooden building with outsized views over the village and the sea.
