Held every Friday on Wolfe Tone Square, this is one of the best country markets in West Cork. Local cheesemakers, smokehouse fish, organic vegetables, sourdough breads, jams and chutneys make up the food half; the other half is the older fair-day mix of household goods, tools, clothing and plants. On the first Friday of each month it expands further, with antiques and bric-à-brac filling the side streets.
It has been a market town since at least 1750, and the Friday gathering is the direct descendant of that tradition. Come early — the best stallholders sell out by lunchtime.
