A waymarked walking route along the spine of the slender peninsula that points south-west out of Bantry Bay. The full route from Bantry to the tip of the head and back is around eighty-eight kilometres, but most people walk only the western end — a four-hour loop from the car park at the road's end out to the lighthouse at the tip and back across the spine, with views of both Bantry Bay and Dunmanus Bay almost the whole way.
The Sheep's Head is the smallest and least visited of the south-western peninsulas, which is most of its appeal. The walk is exposed and there is no shelter; the cafe at Bernie's at the car park is the last place to eat for many kilometres.
