Clonmel is a year-round town without strong seasonal swings in visitor numbers. The warmest months are June through August, and this is the best time for walking in the Comeragh Mountains — the days are long and the paths are drier. Autumn is beautiful in the Suir Valley, and the October races at Powerstown Park are a good reason to visit.
The Clonmel Junction Festival, held in July, brings traditional and contemporary music to pubs and venues across the town. The festival is small enough to feel like a genuine local event rather than a tourist spectacle.
Winter can be wet and grey but the town functions normally throughout. The indoor attractions — the museum, the pubs, the Main Guard — are just as rewarding in January as in July.
