The Chapel Royal inside Dublin Castle is a Gothic Revival masterpiece from 1814, designed by Francis Johnston. The interior is richly decorated with limestone carvings of more than 100 historical heads, representing Irish saints and English monarchs, ranged above the arches and galleries. The plasterwork fan vaulting and carved oak galleries are equally impressive.
The chapel forms part of the Dublin Castle complex and can be visited as part of a guided tour of the castle, which also takes in the State Apartments and the Undercroft, where remains of the original Viking and medieval fortifications are visible.
