The Chester Beatty Library is regularly voted Ireland's best museum, and the claim is hard to dispute. American mining magnate Alfred Chester Beatty assembled one of the world's finest collections of manuscripts, miniature paintings, printed books, and decorative arts from across Asia, the Islamic world, and Europe, and donated it to Ireland on his death in 1968.

Highlights include Qur'an manuscripts of extraordinary beauty, Japanese woodblock print albums, Chinese jade books, and a remarkable collection of early biblical papyri. Entry is free. Allow at least two hours. The garden terrace café is one of the nicest spots for lunch in central Dublin.
