City Hall

Neoclassical 1779 building with free history exhibition and a magnificent domed rotunda

Address Dame Street, Dublin 2
Admission Free

Dublin's City Hall is a neoclassical building from 1779, designed by Thomas Cooley as the Royal Exchange before being taken over by Dublin Corporation. Its magnificent domed rotunda, supported by twelve Corinthian columns, is one of the finest interiors in Dublin and houses a permanent exhibition called 'The Story of the Capital' tracing the city's history from Viking times to the present.

Entry to the exhibition is free, and the building is worth visiting for the architecture alone. The rotunda hosts occasional concerts and events. It sits directly opposite Dublin Castle on Dame Street.
