Donabate Beach

Long Blue Flag beach north of Portmarnock, reached by DART; less crowded than closer beaches

Address Donabate, Co. Dublin

Donabate Beach is a long Blue Flag beach 10km north of Portmarnock, reached by DART to Donabate station (the line's northern terminus) followed by a 20-minute walk. The beach stretches for several kilometres on the Donabate peninsula and is backed by dunes, with the Ben of Howth visible to the south across the estuary.

Donabate is less crowded than Portmarnock or Malahide beaches on summer weekends, partly because of the walk from the station. The combination of beach, nearby Newbridge House and Farm, and the peninsula walk makes for a full day out.
