Ha'penny Bridge

Iconic 1816 cast-iron footbridge over the Liffey, Dublin's most photographed

Address Liffey Bridge, Temple Bar

The Ha'penny Bridge is Dublin's most photographed landmark — a graceful cast-iron footbridge built in 1816 to span the Liffey at its narrowest point in the city centre. Its name comes from the half-penny toll charged to cross it, abolished in 1919. The bridge's white-painted ironwork and three lamp arches have appeared on countless postcards and prints.

Crossing it between Temple Bar on the south bank and the Merchant's Arch on the north puts you at the heart of the city. At night the bridge is lit and reflected in the Liffey, creating one of Dublin's most iconic views.
