The Huguenot Cemetery on Merrion Row is a tiny walled graveyard where French Huguenot Protestant refugees were buried after fleeing religious persecution in France following the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. The cemetery is locked but clearly visible through the iron railings, the crooked headstones packed closely together.
The cemetery sits incongruously in the middle of one of Dublin's most café-lined streets, a few doors from the Shelbourne Hotel and across from the entrance to St Stephen's Green. The contrast between its antiquity and the busy modern street around it makes it one of the most memorable small historical sights in Dublin.
