Mutton Island is a low island in Galway Bay reached by a long causeway from the city side of the water. The walk is simple, exposed, and very Galway: sea air, shifting light, views back to the city, and the sense of stepping just far enough offshore to see the bay differently.
Access can be limited near the working infrastructure, so treat it as a causeway walk and viewpoint rather than a full island ramble. It works best in clear weather or at sunset, when the line of the causeway, the lighthouse, and the bay make a strong visual break from the busier Latin Quarter.
