County Sligo Golf Club

County Sligo Golf Club — known to most people as Rosses Point — occupies the headland north of the village. The eighteen-hole championship course is laid out across genuine links terrain: tumbling dunes, fast greens, the constant Atlantic wind, and a view of Benbulben that distracts even seasoned players.

Green fees are not cheap and tee times in summer should be booked weeks ahead. The clubhouse is welcoming to visitors and the bar is open to non-members for lunch. A second nine-hole course on the same site is more relaxed and a good introduction to links golf.

A story
The club, founded in 1894, is widely considered one of the great Irish links courses. It hosts the West of Ireland Open Championship every Easter, which has been won at various times by Pádraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy, and Shane Lowry. The course sits between Drumcliff Bay and the open Atlantic, with Benbulben dominating the inland views.
