Banna Strand

Long Atlantic beach north-west of Tralee, backed by dunes and tied to Irish revolutionary history.

Banna Strand is the big open beach Tralee locals point you toward when the weather behaves. It runs for kilometres, with pale sand, dunes, Atlantic wind, and enough space that even a busy day rarely feels cramped.

There is also history under the sea air. Roger Casement landed near here in 1916 after trying to bring German arms to Ireland, and the episode gives the beach a sharper edge than its holiday-camp surroundings suggest. Come for a walk, a swim in good conditions, or a broad Kerry sunset.
