Siamsa Tíre (roughly, "the place of entertainment") is Ireland's National Folk Theatre, founded in Tralee in 1968. The current purpose-built theatre on the edge of the town park opened in 1991, designed by Eoin McKeogh in a form meant to echo the shape of an ancient ring fort.
The company's programmes draw on Irish rural traditions — music, song, dance, and mime — woven into theatrical productions rather than presented as heritage spectacle. Summer performances run from May through September and are aimed at visitors as well as locals. If you are in Tralee during the Rose of Tralee festival week in August, the town is effectively overrun with events and the theatre is in the thick of it.
