Tralee Town Park is consistently ranked among the best urban parks in Ireland, and the rose garden — with over 5,000 varieties — is one of the largest rose collections in the country. The park runs along the old Tralee Ship Canal, which was built in 1846 to connect the town to the tidal waters of Tralee Bay.
The park includes a boating lake, playground, and extensive walks through formal and informal garden areas. In summer it fills up with locals and visitors, and the rose garden is at its best from June to August. The canal walk links the park to the Blennerville Windmill about 3 kilometres to the west — a pleasant flat walk with views over the bay and the mountains of the Dingle Peninsula.
