Getting There

The Isle of Man is reached by air or by sea. There is no bridge or tunnel.

By air: Ronaldsway Airport (IATA: IOM) is near Castletown in the south of the island, about 10 miles from Douglas. Regular scheduled flights operate from London Heathrow, London City, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Bristol, and Belfast. Loganair and easyJet are the main carriers. Flight times are typically 50–90 minutes from UK cities. Book well in advance if travelling during the TT (late May–early June) or Manx Grand Prix (August–September) — seats fill fast and prices spike sharply.

By sea: The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company operates ferry services from Liverpool, Heysham (near Lancaster), and Dublin. The fast craft from Liverpool to Douglas takes around 2 hours 45 minutes; the slower Heysham crossing takes about 3 hours 30 minutes. The Dublin crossing is roughly 2 hours 45 minutes. Check the Steam Packet website for current schedules — winter sailings are reduced and weather cancellations are possible. A ferry from Larne (Northern Ireland) began operating in 2026, replacing the former Belfast service.

Travelling by sea is the only way to bring your own vehicle. As a foot passenger, you can rent a car or use the public transport network on the island. Booking a cabin for overnight sailings is worth doing if you want to sleep properly.
