The simplest base is Pescasseroli, reached by bus from Avezzano or seasonal connections from other Abruzzo towns. A car is far more flexible, especially if you want to move between Opi, Civitella Alfedena, Barrea, and the trailheads. Roads are mountainous and slow; winter snow can change plans quickly.
