Late spring and early autumn are the best seasons for walking, with cooler temperatures and good colour in the woods. July and August bring more services and more visitors, especially around Pescasseroli and Barrea. Winter is beautiful but practical only if you are prepared for snow, short days, and reduced access to higher trails.
