Val Fondillo

Val Fondillo, near Opi, is one of the park's most rewarding valleys for first-time visitors. The trail follows a clear mountain stream through meadow and beech forest, with the ridges rising steadily on either side.

It is popular because it is beautiful without being punishing. Start early for quiet, carry water, and resist the temptation to treat it like a city park; this is still a protected mountain environment.

A story
Val Fondillo is one of the valleys where the park's conservation story feels tangible. The walking is accessible, but the surrounding beech woods are serious habitat: wolves and bears may be nearby even when the only animals you actually see are deer or birds.
