Bominaco's entire reason to visit is its two medieval churches. The Oratorio di San Pellegrino contains one of the finest complete fresco cycles in central Italy; Santa Maria Assunta is a Romanesque masterpiece of austere beauty. Both require access through the local custodian — ask at the village or call ahead. The ruined castle above the village is also worth a look for the views over the Abruzzo uplands.
