Museo Diocesano

Small but well-curated diocesan museum of sacred art near the Annunziata

The Museo Diocesano holds the diocese of Sulmona-Valva's collection of sacred art, much of it gathered from churches in the surrounding valleys. The collection spans the medieval through Baroque periods and includes processional crosses, illuminated manuscripts, vestments, sculpture in wood and stone, and altar paintings.

The standout pieces include several 13th- and 14th-century wooden crucifixes of striking expressivity. The museum is small enough to see properly in an hour. Opening hours are limited — typically mornings and a few afternoons — and tickets are inexpensive.
