Montescaglioso sits within easy reach of the most rewarding sights in eastern Basilicata. Matera and its sassi are the obvious headline trip. Metaponto on the Ionian coast preserves the temple ruins and museum of a major Magna Graecia colony. Miglionico further west has a Norman castle and a famous altarpiece by Cima da Conegliano.
