Potenza's cathedral is dedicated to San Gerardo, the city's patron saint. The original Romanesque church on this site was largely destroyed by earthquake in the 18th century; what stands today is a late-18th-century neoclassical rebuild by Antonio Magri, completed under the patronage of the Bourbon kings.
It is plain on the outside and surprisingly bright inside, with a confident high altar and a 13th-century rose window preserved from the medieval predecessor. Worth ten minutes if you are on Via Pretoria anyway.
