The regional archaeological museum, named after Dinu Adamesteanu, is the single best reason to spend an extra hour in Potenza. Spread across several galleries, it covers the prehistoric, Greek-colonial, and Roman archaeology of Basilicata — a region whose pre-Roman cultures (Lucanians, Enotrians) are barely known outside specialist circles.
Standout exhibits include the painted Lucanian tombs, Magna Graecia red-figure pottery, and a remarkable series of bronze-age burial goods. Captioning is in Italian and basic English. Allow 90 minutes.
