Museo dei Brettii e degli Enotri

The Museo dei Brettii e degli Enotri occupies a 19th-century palazzo in the old town and covers the pre-Roman archaeology of the Cosenza region. The Bruttii were the Oscan-speaking people who dominated northern Calabria before the Roman conquest, and their material culture — coins, pottery, metalwork, votive objects — forms the core of the collection.

The museum is small by Italian standards but well-curated, and the objects on display are genuinely interesting for anyone trying to understand the deep history of the region. The palazzo setting, with its painted ceilings and tiled floors, adds to the experience. An hour here before climbing to the castle makes an effective combination.
