The seafront promenade runs the length of Diamante, lined with palms, oleanders, and a string of gelaterias and bars on the landward side. In summer it is the centre of evening life: families with strollers, teenagers on scooters, old men playing cards on benches. The view stretches across the Tyrrhenian to the silhouette of Cirella island.
The southern end thins out into a quieter stretch where the path narrows and the volcanic rocks of the coastline emerge. Sunset from the rocks at the south end of the lungomare is one of the best free things to do in town — bring a bottle of local wine and stay until the lights of the fishing boats start dotting the horizon.
